Ivan Foronda (born in Huntington Park, California) is an American immigration attorney, author, and the founder of Foronda Law, APC. He is widely recognized for his work assisting both corporate and individual clients with employment-based and family-based immigration matters. Outside of the legal profession, Foronda writes fiction under the pen name Ford Ivanson, where he explores themes of migration, identity, and adventure.
Ivan Foronda was raised in Huntington Park, California, an area with a vibrant Mexican-American immigrant community. Growing up, he was exposed to the challenges many immigrants face, which significantly influenced his decision to pursue immigration law. His father owned a seafood restaurant, and from an early age, Foronda learned the values of hard work and community engagement.
Foronda was active in the Boy Scouts of America, having started as a Cub Scout and eventually achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. As part of his Eagle Scout project in 2013, he organized a book drive that collected and delivered over 2,000 books to a school in Ethiopia. During high school, he also passed several Advanced Placement (AP) tests without taking the formal classes, allowing him to enter college with enough credits to graduate early.
Outside of academic pursuits, Foronda enjoyed playing Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, video games such as The Legend of Zelda, and watching anime including Naruto and One Piece. He has often cited superheroes like Superman and characters like Monkey D. Luffy as inspirations for his persistence and optimism. His enthusiasm for extracurriculars led him to participate in student government throughout his education, culminating in his role on the Student Bar Association during law school.
Foronda graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2016 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and a minor in Global Studies. He completed his undergraduate studies in three years due to the advanced credits he accumulated from AP exams. While at UCLA, he was involved in the UCLA Spirit Squad as the mascot “Joe Bruin,” the Pre-Law Society, and intramural soccer.
At age 20, Foronda enrolled in Chapman University’s Fowler School of Law, focusing on Advocacy & Dispute Resolution. During law school, he served as Vice President of Mock Trial, participated in Moot Court, and was an active member of the Black Law Students Association and the Air and Space Law Student Association. He also held office as a representative in the Student Bar Association. In recognition of his advocacy skills, he received certifications for excellence in Arbitration, Appellate Advocacy, and Trial Advocacy. By age 23, Foronda had graduated and been admitted to practice law.
While completing his legal education, Foronda gained experience through various internships and externships. He served as a Judicial Extern for the Orange County Superior Court, where he drafted memoranda and orders, researched case law, and observed trial preparation. Prior to that, he worked as a Legal Extern/Intern Manager at Wilson Keadjian Browndorf, LLP, coordinating a team of interns and drafting legal documents.
Following law school, Foronda worked as a Law Clerk at Manning & Kass, Ellrod, Ramirez, Trester LLP, primarily supporting real estate cases, drafting pre-litigation letters, and conducting legal research. He later other immigration law firms where he helped thousands of clients, and refined his expertise in asylum, U Visas, DACA, adjustment of status, naturalization, and more.
Foronda further specialized in immigration law by joining the Law Office of David Sturman, where he managed a large volume of visa applications—ranging from EB-1 and L-1A to H-1B petitions—for multinational corporations and skilled workers. He continued to deepen his focus on corporate immigration at Fragomen, a leading global immigration law firm, where he served as the L-1 Visa Team Lead Attorney and advised Fortune 500 technology firms on nonimmigrant and immigrant visa procedures, compliance, and permanent residence processes.
In September 2022, Ivan Foronda established Foronda Law, APC, a full-service immigration law practice specializing in:
